One of the serious adverse reactions with the administration of chemotherapeutical agents is renal failure. In general, when the level of creatinine/glomerular filtration data is high, chemotherapy involving almost all cytotoxic agents is avoided or the dosage is reduced. Liposomal cisplatin (lipoplatin) is a new agent which has been tested in Phase I, II and III trials and no renal toxicity has been reported. In the present trial, this agent was tested as monotherapy and in combination with gemcitabine or paclitaxel or 5-fluorouracil-leucovorin, mainly in lung and bladder cancer patients with renal insufficiency. Forty-two patients, (14 with non-small-cell lung cancer, 2 with squamous cell carcinoma non-small-cell lung cancer, 16 with bladder cancer and 10 gastrointestinal tract cancer), were included. There were 40 men and 2 women, median age 65 y (range 49-84). Lipoplatin and gemcitabine were administered to patients with bladder cancer, the first day, repeated every 2 weeks; paclitaxel, plus lipoplatin as above, were administered to lung cancer patients; patients with gastrointestinal tract cancer received 5-fluorouracil and leucovorin, plus lipoplatin as above. The median number of courses was 6 (range 2-12). Serum creatinine was 1.6 mg/dl to 4.0 mg/dl (median 2.4 mg/dl). No serum creatinine increase was observed in any of the patients. Grade 1-2 myelotoxicity and anemia were observed in 28.57% and 50% of the patients, respectively. Liposomal cisplatin is a new agent, which according to the literature and the present study, is an eligible cytotoxic agent for patients with renal insufficiency

Tone Stimulus Detection in Rats Using RRAM-Based Local Field Potential Monitoring

The comprehension of brain activity presents signif-icant challenges in the field of neuroscience. Contrary to spikes, Local Field Potentials (LFPs) present improved stability acqui-sition in chronic implant scenarios and potential reductions in sampling and processing rates. While existing electrophysiology acquisition systems focus predominantly on spike detection and sorting, there is a lack of real-time tools for exploiting LFPs. To address this gap, we present a Resistive-RAM (RRAM) based approach to process LFP traces. Our method follows an improved Memristive Integrating Sensor (MIS) protocol to effectively detect LFP events recorded from the deep-brain of an awake rat, while externally stimulated by a tone. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of real-time neural activity processing, offering insights into detecting meaningful external stimuli and facilitating efficient neural state estimation

Implementation of an Interactive Crowd-Enhanced Content Management System for Tourism Development

This paper investigated the role of interactive tourist mobile apps in tourism development. The researchers presented the e-Tracer application, which was developed taking into consideration the recent advantages in mobile computing, the importance of user-generated content and the needs of northern Greece and the lower Balkan countries. Apart from crowd-based content creation, a new generation of apps for tourism development may include additional components like serious games for tourists, map-based navigation systems and augmented/virtual reality applications, in order to offer memorable user experiences for tourists. An agile content management system design methodology was followed by taking into account the needs of alternative tourist destinations, small to medium sized real-world museums and driver rest areas located around highways which connect cross-country destinations in the lower Balkan countries and Turkey. This work positioned the role of interactive crowd-enhanced platforms for content management of tourist-related information in tourism development, economic growth and sustainability of the Egnatia motorway surrounding areas in Greece. Keywords: mobile computing, content management systems, recommender systems, serious games, virtual/augmented reality, tourism developmen
